11/11/11 (a.k.a. 11-11-11); Friday, November 11, 2011: Mathematics
The number eleven is the fifth prime number (contrary to popular belief, the number one ( 1 ) is not a prime number).
The base numeric number system lends itself to some interesting peculiarities as relates to the number eleven.
Base 10 for example:
(2 digits) 11 x 11 = 121
(6 digits) 111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
(9 digits) 111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321
Base 16 (hexadecimal) for example:
(2 digits) 11 x 11 = 121
(6 digits) 111111 x 111111 = 12345654321
(9 digits) 111111111 x 111111111 = 12345678987654321

Facts: Google is the internet!
The internet search engine ‘Google’ was founded by two smart mathematicians Sergey Brin and Larry Page. It all started as a college project and now it rules the internet rather Google is the internet!. The two met at Stanford University in the 1990s where they were both attending graduate school.
Together, they ended up collaborating on a paper titled The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine. Eventually, this paper would lead Brin and Page to launch the Google search engine in 1998. Google success is solely because of their PageRank algorithm. The term “Google” is similar to “Googol”. “Googol” is the mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros. Today Billions of internet users are dependent on google and today Google has all the answers for your questions. Google has totally changed the way people find information, from libraries to internet.
here’s a very quick look back at the Google story over the last 11 years. From Stanford to Mountain View and around the world, featuring many different products, starting with BackRub (Search) up to Google Wave, StreetView and Chrome. The 2 minutes video explains Google’s milestones so far would help piece your understanding of Google together.
If you found this video interesting I’d also recommend you reading David Vise’s fantastic book ‘The Google Story’. Really interesting.

Facts & Fun : Google Fun Facts
Google sorts billions of bits of information for its users. Here are some little-known bits of information about Google:
Google's name is a play on the word googol, which refers to the number 1 followed by one hundred zeroes. The term was coined by Milton Sirotta, nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, and was popularized in the book, "Mathematics and the Imagination" by Kasner and James Newman. Google's play on the term reflects the company's mission to organize the immense amount of information available on the web.
Google started as a research project at Stanford University, created by Ph.D. candidates Larry Page and Sergey Brin when they were 24 years old and 23 years old respectively (a combined 47 years old).
Google's index of web pages is the largest in the world, comprising of billions of web pages. Google searches this immense collection of web pages often in less than half a second.
Google receives daily search requests from all over the world, including Antarctica.
Users can restrict their searches for content in 35 non-English languages, including Chinese, Greek, Icelandic, Hebrew, Hungarian and Estonian. To date, no requests have been received from beyond the earth's orbit, but Google has a Klingon interface just in case.
Google has a world-class staff of more than 2,668 employees known as Googlers. The company headquarters is called the Googleplex.
Google translates billions of HTML web pages into a display format for WAP and i-mode phones and wireless handheld devices, and has made it possible to enter a search using only one phone pad keystroke per letter, instead of multiple keystrokes.
Google Groups comprises more than 845 million Usenet messages, which is the world's largest collection of messages or the equivalent of more than a terabyte of human conversation.
The basis of Google's search technology is called PageRank™, and assigns an "importance" value to each page on the web and gives it a rank to determine how useful it is. However, that's not why it's called PageRank. It's actually named after Google co-founder Larry Page.
Googlers are multifaceted. One operations manager, who keeps the Google network in good health is a former neurosurgeon. One software engineer is a former rocket scientist. And the company's chef formerly prepared meals for members of The Grateful Dead and funkmeister George Clinton.

Facts: Egypt is online without Internet service, cell phones or social networking
Do you know that Egypt Authorities had shutdown all the main communication media in the country??
As Egypt protest continues new means of communication draws forward with the help of “We Rebuild”, a group that has turned to landline phones, fax machines and ham radio in order to communicate messages out of the country.
Authorities in Egypt have continuously blocked the Internet access from country’s four major Internet providers abruptly due to the riots and unrest that is prevailing in the country from last one week. The Internet service was shutdown on Thursday at 22:34 GMT, but the Noor ISP which has access to about 8 percent of the market is currently available.
The Egyptian governments plans to cut off all the services that provides communication via e-mail, text messages, Twitter, BlackBerry service, Facebook, cell phones and blocking ISP has succeeded to some extent. But that has not deterred the engulfing masses who have resorted to transfer the message by old-school method like distributing page pamphlets which was very popular even before Internet existed.
And another means to communicate include, calling a number to reach a modem available in another country which directs them with access to the outside world. Presently, the “We Rebuild” group was able to establish connection in Sweden through the dial-up options. The activist group with theme “When countries block, we evolve”, wrote on Twitter has a wiki page set up to highlight on what is happening in the country.
Few of the radio messages passing on the air were “Internet not working, police cars burning” and “Today marks a great day for Egypt.”
However others have turned to services like Tor, which reroutes a user’s traffic through a network of volunteers’ computers across the globe which makes it impossible to trace. And some of them are using Hotspot Shield, software that secures Web surfing session.
There are also reports about Satellite modems and phones entering the country in order to bypass government controlled telecommunication companies to connect with United States or Europe.
The Egyptian people continue to demonstrate protest and rallies in order to ouster the three year old Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
